FAQ Answers:

What is Frequent Flyer Friend?

Frequent Flyer Friend is a computer program which runs on your PC. The program gets frequent flyer seat availability for selected itineraries automatically via your airline's website.

Using fast and secure technology, Frequent Flyer Friend automates the process you use to check Frequent Flyer availability online via your airline's website.

Frequent Flyer Friend was developed and is supported by the Australian Frequent Flyer, Australia’s leading independent Frequent Flyer authority since 1998.

Why should I use it?

There are a limited number of Frequent Flyer seats available on any flight. These seats can be allocated at any point from a year to a day prior to departure.

To be certain of being “first in line” in booking Frequent Flyer seats you need to contact the airline continually – preferably each day – just to determine whether your flights are available.

Frequent Flyer Friend does this for you – automatically – and will inform you the moment a seat becomes available.

You save time by not having to manually contact the airline. You are assured that Frequent Flyer Friend works tirelessly in the background, checking availability, and informing you as soon as a seat becomes available.

Which airlines are supported?

Frequent Flyer Friend currently supports the Qantas Frequent Flyer and United Mileage Plus programs. Other airline frequent flyer programs will be available soon.

The Frequent Flyer Friend was developed by The Australian Frequent Flyer. Neither Qantas, United nor any other airline has not endorsed this product.

What do I need to use Frequent Flyer Friend?

You need to have a PC with the following:
Operating System: Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows ME
Processor Speed: 500Mhz Pentium or equivalent
RAM: 128MB of system RAM
Hard Drive Space: 5MB available
Internet Explorer: IE 5.0 or later

You also need to have an active internet connection for information retrievals.

And of course you need to be a member of the Frequent Flyer program :)

How much does it cost?

The 7 day trial is free.

If you decide to continue using Frequent Flyer Friend after the trial period, you will need to buy license. This is a once-off fee of US$ 69.95 per edition.

What about updates and upgrades?

Upgrades may be released periodically. The license fee includes free upgrades for at least 12 months from date of purchase.

Before installing an update or upgrade, you will need to uninstall your existing version.

Can I use the application on more than one computer?

Yes, one license can work on multiple PC's. So, you can install it on your home and work computers.

However, a license will only work for a single edition (eg. Qantas) using a single Frequent Flyer membership number.

What personal information do I need to provide?

In order to contact your airline’s website, Frequent Flyer Friend will need some personal information. This includes your frequent flyer PIN. You PIN is stored on YOUR computer and is only used in establishing contact with the airline.

You can read our Privacy Policy HERE.

How do I use it?

Follow the instructions in our Getting Started Guide to set up the program.

Once Frequent Flyer Friend is installed on your computer, it will start automatically every time your computer is switched on. Provided you have entered itinerary information, it will automatically access your airline's website to check for availability of the required flights.

In addition to checking flight availability when your computer starts up, Frequent Flyer Friend will also automatically check at the interval you specified when setting it up (ie. every 12, 24, 36, 48 hours).

You can open Frequent Flyer Friend's Control Panel at any time by double clicking on the icon in your system tray (bottom right, near the date/time). From here you can change your settings or Check Now for an immediate availability check.

You can close Frequent Flyer Friend's Control Panel at any time by clicking on the minimize button (top row, 2nd last button).

For Frequent Flyer Friend to check for availability, you need to have a live internet connection.

How do I switch it off?

Frequent Flyer Friend runs continually in the background, checking availability for your selected flights at regular intervals.

The application checks availability only if you have entered itinerary information. If nothing has been entered, it will remain in an idle state.

If you would prefer Frequent Flyer Friend not to run, open the Help/About Menu ("?" icon) on top left hand corner of Control Panel. Deselect the Launch When Windows Starts option.  Then stop the program by right-clicking on the icon in the system tray (bottom right, near the date/time) and selecting "Exit"

To use Frequent Flyer Friend again, start it from the Windows start menu or via an icon on the desktop.

Can I be alerted by SMS when a Frequent Flyer seat is available?

Yes!  Create an email account which has an associated SMS alert service.  (An example would be Hotmail and the associated Mobile Hotmail.) Use this email address for Frequent Flyer Friend alerts only.

When Frequent Flyer Friend sends an alert email to the designated email address, the associated SMS alert service will be activated and you will receive a SMS. Note that the SMS service provider may charge you for this service.

Special Information for DELL users

If you are having problems loading FFF or viewing FFF's interface and you are a DELL user then your PC may not be setup correctly.

Due to FFF's graphical interface you have to make sure your monitor’s DPI settings are set correctly.  To do this right click anywhere on your desktop, from the drop down menu select properties.  In the new window click the tab Settings followed by the Advanced button.  You will see the option DPI setting, make sure you have 120 DPI selected.  Once you do, press Apply and then OK to keep your settings.

Restart your PC if prompted.  Now reload FFF and it should load correctly.

Does Frequent Flyer Friend run on my Apple Mac?

No.  Currently we only support the Microsoft Windows environment.  A Mac OS version might be released in the future.
